Certificate and Medal of National Education Achievement Award
Established in 1989 and awarded every four years, the Award is the only national level award in education in China.
The undergraduate education at Tsinghua SEM aims to “make each student a fully developed modern person while also create an environment that promotes top talents”. To achieve this goal, Tsinghua SEM follows an approach that integrates “general education” with “individual development”. In practice, the School pursues a “three-in-one” education package in terms of value formation, capability development and knowledge impartment. Over the years, the School developed several general education core courses and a three-track honors program and put special emphasis on the development in critical thinking capability. The School’s achievement in education reform is now recognized by the students, the University and the society.
In 2009, Tsinghua SEM became a pilot school at Tsinghua University for undergraduate education reform by launching a new undergraduate curriculum. This reform won the top education award by the University in 2012 and by the Beijing Municipal Government in 2013 respectively. On April 24, 2012, China Education Daily published a feature article - To Cultivate the Soil for Students’ Free Development: The Undergraduate Education Reform at Tsinghua SEM - on its front page to cover the School’s reform experience.
