2015 Freshmen Opening Ceremony and Orientation Held

On August 20th, Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (Tsinghua SEM) held the Opening Ceremony and Orientation for the new undergraduate students. Professor QIAN Yingyi, Dean of Tsinghua SEM, Professor XU Xin, Associate Dean, Professor JIAO Jie, Associate Dean, and more than 200 freshmen attended the ceremony. The event was hosted by Professor ZHU Yujie, Academic Director of the Academic Affairs Office.

CHEN Jiazheng, Class of 2016 and President of the Tsinghua SEM Student Union, and DENG Hua, Class of 2019, made their speeches respectively.
Professor XU Xin, Associate Dean of the School, gave welcome remarks to the new students, in which he emphasized the importance of building a broad knowledge base for undergraduate students, pursuing own goals rather than blindly following others’ mindset, and striving hard for ongoing growth based on Tsinghua’s motto.

During the Orientation, Professor QIAN Yingyi, Dean of Tsinghua SEM, elaborated the undergraduate education program for the Class of 2019 by focusing on five areas – The University and The School, Concept of Undergraduate Education, Undergraduate Training Program, Undergraduate Education Resources, and University and Life.

Professor JIAO Jie, Associate Dean, stated the importance of academic ethics and student discipline. Professor GAO Feng, Head of the Student Affairs Group, YANG Nali, Director of the International Office, and YUN Tao, Acting Director of the Career Development Center, introduced the work of the Student Affairs Group, the overseas exchange programs, and employment conditions and career development in Tsinghua SEM, respectively.
For the year of 2015, 219 freshmen have been enrolled to Tsinghua SEM, including 189 from mainland China, 8 from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, 17 from international countries, and 5 students on contract with the Capital University of Economics and Business.
