2016 Freshmen Opening Ceremony and Orientation Held

On August 18, 2016, Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (Tsinghua SEM) held the Opening Ceremony and Orientation for the new undergraduate students. Professor XU Xin, Associate Dean of Tsinghua SEM, Professor JIAO Jie, Associate Dean, Professor ZHU Yujie, Academic Director of the Academic Affairs Office and more than 200 freshmen, their families and friends attended the ceremony. 


2016 Freshmen Opening Ceremony and Orientation

Professor XU Xin, Associate Dean of the School, gave the new students a welcoming speech entitled “Broad Knowledge Base: Foundation of Undergraduate Education”. The speech started with the School’s mission (To advance knowledge and cultivate leaders for China and the world), aspiration (To be a world-class school of economics and management) and values (integrity, dedication and respect), and introduced how Tsinghua SEM reformed its undergraduate program education to effectively support the mission. A focus of the reformation is exactly upon a broad knowledge base for undergraduate students. He shared views and experiences from faculty and students to elaborate the importance of the reformation.

ZHU Jianran, Class of 2017 and President of the Tsinghua SEM Student Union, and ZHANG Likun, Class of 2020, made their speeches respectively.

Professor JIAO Jie, Associate Dean, stated the importance of academic ethics and student discipline. Professor ZHU Yujie, Academic Director of the Academic Affairs Office, presented the concept of undergraduate education. Professor GAO Feng, Head of the Student Affairs Group, YUN Tao, Director of the Career Development Center, and YANG Nali, Director of the International Office, introduced the work of the Student Affairs Group, employment conditions and career development in Tsinghua SEM, and the overseas exchange programs, respectively. 

For the year of 2016, 227 freshmen have been enrolled to Tsinghua SEM, including 208 from mainland China, 7 from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, and 12 from international countries.
