About SEM

The School of Economics and Management of Tsinghua University (Tsinghua SEM) was established in 1984, with Professor Zhu Rongji as its founding dean who later became the fifth Premier of People’s Republic of China in 1998. Tsinghua SEM aims to become a world-class school of economics and management by contributing academic knowledge that fuels the revival of the Chinese economy and cultivating business leaders for China and the world.

 

Tsinghua SEM currently has eight academic departments covering economics, accounting, finance, marketing, business strategy and policy, human resources and organizational behavior, innovation and entrepreneurship, management science and engineering. With more than 160 full-time faculty (over 70% has had overseas advanced degrees or training), and dozens of visiting and guest professors from best business schools abroad or government offices and business organizations, plus ten research centers and six advanced labs, SEM is uniquely positioned for management education and for state-of-the-art research. Educational programs offered by Tsinghua SEM are at undergraduate, master’s (academic, MBA and EMBA), Ph.D and post-doctoral levels.

 

Tsinghua SEM has partnered with world leading business schools, including MIT Sloan School of Management, Harvard Business School, INSEAD, HEC School of Management (France) and Graduate School of Business of Stanford University, for faculty development, collaborative academic and research programs as well as student exchange programs. SEM’s International Advisory Board, founded in 2000 with more than 40 members consisting of world-class multinational CEOs (e.g., BP, GE, Citigroup, Intel, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, Dell, Kodak, Boeing, Coca-Cola, Lenovo), top international business school deans (e.g., MIT Sloan and HBS) and senior government officials (e.g., the mayor of Beijing, the governor of the People's Bank of China, the chairman of the China Banking Regulatory Commission, the chairman of the State Development and Reform Commission), has provided solid financial and intellectual guidance and assistance to SEM’s development.
