Formal Launch of Center for China in the World Economy(CCWE)

The Center for China in the World Economy (CCWE) was formally launched on October 31.

Located at the School of Economics and Management, the center is a policy research center for studying and promoting China's integration in the world economy. It aspires to become an internationally recognized center of research and training so as to deepen people's understanding of China in the world economy.

CCWE received financial support from BP for its establishment and initial operations.

Tsinghua President Gu Binglin, Vice President He Jiankun, and Lord John Browne, group chief executive of BP, attended the ceremony. President Gu and Lord Browne both spoke at the event.

Before the ceremony, a roundtable titled “China in the World Economy: Common Opportunities and Challengesas” held. Mr. Nick Butler, Group Vice President of Strategy & Policy Development BP plc, Professor Lawrence J. Lau, Vice Chancellor of Chinese University of Hong Kong, Professor Justin Lin, Director of CCER of Peking University, Professor James Mirrlees, Nobel Laureate and Professor of Economics in Cambridge University, and Professor Qian Yingyi, First Deputy Dean of the School of Economics and Management attended and spoke.
