Prestigious journal names Tsinghua SEM professor area editor

Professor MA Xufei from the Department of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Strategy at the Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (Tsinghua SEM) has accepted an appointment as the area editor of the highly regarded Journal of International Business Studies (JIBS). His tenure begins January 2023 and ends December 2025.


JIBS is considered the world's foremost business journal and consistently ranks as one of the highest quality journals in the fields of business and management. It is also highly rated by the Social Sciences Citation Index (2020 2-year Impact Factor: 11.382, 5-year Impact Factor: 13.555), and rated as a four-star "World Elite" journal in the Association of Business Schools' Academic Journal Guide. It is one of the 50 journals used by the Financial Times (FT) to determine business school rankings, and one of the 24 journals that the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) tracks to compile its Top 100 Business Research Rankings.


Professor MA's appointment shows his academic achievements and ability are recognized by international peers. It also marks a key milestone for Tsinghua SEM in its fostering of the discipline of business management, its faculty construction and the growth of its international influence. His work will increase Tsinghua SEM's international influence and boost its discipline construction and development.


About MA Xufei


MA Xufei is a tenured professor and vice chairman of the Department of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Strategy of Tsinghua SEM. He has received grants from a Chinese national talent program. He is also a tenured professor at the Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School and the Shenzhen Institute of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University. He received a bachelor's degree from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1995, an MBA from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada in 2003, and a Ph.D from the Business School of the National University of Singapore in 2007. He was an assistant professor and then tenured associate professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and a tenured professor at the City University of Hong Kong's College of Business. He also served as director of CUHK's Center for Entrepreneurship and director of CUHK's Center for International Business Studies.


MA's research focuses on international enterprise management, strategic management, and innovation and entrepreneurial management. He has published more than ten academic papers in UTD and FT listed journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, the Strategic Management Journal, the Journal of International Business Studies, the Journal of Management, the Journal of Management Studies, and the Journal of Business Venturing. He received the Haynes Prize for the Most Promising Scholar from the Academy of International Business, and was the first Chinese Dunning Fellow at the John H. Dunning Center for International Business, UK. He was awarded the Journal of International Business Studies 50th Anniversary Silver Medal. He was a special issue editor for academic journals such as the Journal of International Business Studies and the Journal of Management Studies, and an area editor for the Quarterly Journal of Management. He was also a senior editor for the journals such as Management and Organization Review and Asia Pacific Journal of Management. In addition, he has supervised and participated in projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Hong Kong Research Grants Council, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the City University of Hong Kong, and Tsinghua University, among others.
