Tsinghua SEM Hosted 2025 Tsinghua SEM Summer Program

Tsinghua SEM hosted an enriching one-week Tsinghua SEM Summer Program from May 18 to May 24, with students from partner universities, including University College London, Nanyang Technological University, Imperial College London, and Duke University, gathering in Beijing for a week of academic, cultural, and professional exploration. Through a combination of academic lectures, company visits, and cultural exchange activities, students experienced the immersive campus culture at Tsinghua and explored the development trends of China’s economy and business from a cross-cultural perspective.

He Ping, Associate Dean of Tsinghua SEM, extended a warm welcome to the students and emphasized the importance of exchanging perspectives to foster innovation in multidisciplinary environments and academic partnerships. He encouraged the students to carry the knowledge, friendships, and transformative experiences from their time at Tsinghua into their future endeavors.

Throughout the week, students engaged in a comprehensive curriculum that covered topics such as innovation and financing in Chinese enterprises, economic development, and the investment landscape in China. Students were offered in-depth insights into the evolution and growth of China’s private equity and investment sectors. They were also encouraged to think critically about the shifting global economic trends through a cross-cultural lens. Students reflected that the utilization of ideograms, with traditional Chinese characters as a mental primer in understanding the managerial accounting concepts in a culturally relevant way, offered them a unique insight into the charm of Chinese culture.

During the week, students visited some of the thriving Chinese technology companies and industrial park. At Landspace, they explored the breakthroughs and future potential of private enterprises in China's aerospace sector. In ZGC Medical Device Park, students observed firsthand how biotechnology and biopharmaceutical companies in China are driving the future of healthcare. They were also introduced to the evolution and integration of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with modern medical practices. Meanwhile, at Ciming Checkup, students engaged in in-depth discussions on the importance and future direction of health management services in the context of an aging population.

During the visit to Pop Mart, students showed strong interest in the company’s efforts in intellectual property (IP) development and its global expansion strategies. Jonathon (NTU, Singapore) remarked, “It was a wonderful experience which brought me thinking further regarding IP property, including how I can utilise IP outside of the industry I work in. It intrigues me how Pop Mart are expanding beyond IP property to animations and movies, a brilliant company to look up to”.

Serving as a platform for academic and cultural exchanges, Tsinghua SEM Summer Program provided students with opportunities to experience the vibrancy of Tsinghua’s campus life, the richness of Chinese cultures and form meaningful connections through cross-cultural interaction. Samyuktha Warrier (Duke University, USA) noted that “I loved socializing with my classmates and thought that the activities and meals organized were fantastic opportunities to do just that. The campus tour in particular was amazing; Tsinghua has such a huge campus and I felt I was able to see the main highlights. I also loved visiting all the canteens with my Tsinghua student card!” Tsinghua SEM remains committed to deepening partnerships with leading academic institutions globally, aiming to cultivate future leaders with both global perspective and localized expertise.
