On the morning of October 23, 2015, the 2015 Advisory Board Meeting of Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management (Tsinghua SEM) was held, with 40 Board members participating in the meeting and related activities. Since the Advisory Board’s inception in 2000, this was the 16th time that the annual meeting has been convened. The meeting was chaired by Mr. David M. Rubenstein, Chairman of Tsinghua SEM Advisory Board, Co-Founder and Co-CEO, The Carlyle Group.

The 2015 Advisory Board Meeting was chaired by Mr. David M. Rubenstein, Chairman of Tsinghua SEM Advisory Board, Co-Founder and Co-CEO, The Carlyle Group

The meeting began with the chairman remarks by Rubenstein. He introduced the new members of the Board and gave a special mention to Henry M. Paulson, Jr., Chairman of Paulson Institute, Former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, Former Chairman and CEO of The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. and his new book "Dealing with China". Chapter 7 “School for Success” of the book narrated the story of how the Tsinghua SEM Advisory Board was established.

Dean QIAN Yingyi provided the Tsinghua SEM Update to the board from the areas of leadership renewal, Board members' visits, big data research and teaching, corporate social responsibility and ethics education and other aspects. Members of the advisory board affirmed the School's achievements for the past year and provided thoughts and advice.

This year, the two main topics of the meeting were "Infrastructure Construction: The New SEM Buildings" and "Entrepreneurship Education: Tsinghua x-lab". Dean QIAN Yingyi updated board members on the progress of the new teaching building with a video illustrating its design concept. Senior Associate Dean GAO Jian opened his speech with a video introducing the growth of the Tsinghua x-lab and shared about its current progress, cultivation of innovative talent and the challenges that it was facing.

The Advisory Board held an Executive Session after the tea break.

The Tsinghua SEM Advisory Board was established in October 2000, consisting of over 60 distinguished Chinese and foreign board members who are leading entrepreneurs, business school deans, thought leaders with significant global influence, and Chinese government officials for economic and financial affairs. ZHU Rongji, the founding dean of Tsinghua SEM, is the Honorary Chairman. The Tsinghua SEM Advisory Board provides strategic direction and advises on the school’s plans and positioning, builds strong linkages and relevance to needs of industry, and promotes teaching and research excellence so as to advance Tsinghua SEM as a world-class institution of higher education. The current Chairman of the Board is David M. Rubenstein, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of the Carlyle Group. Vice Chairman is QIU Yong, President of Tsinghua University.
