Educational Background

Wen Yao is a tenured Associate Professor of Economics at Tsinghua University. She also serves as Associate Dean of the Office of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Administration at Tsinghua University. Professor Yao received her B.S. in Computer Science from Fudan University in 2006 and her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 2011.


Her research focuses on macroeconomics, international economics, and the Chinese economy, with particular interests in growth and structural transformation, business cycles and financial crises. Her work has been published in leading international journals, including the Journal of International Economics, Journal of Development Economics, International Economic Review, Review of Economic Dynamics, European Economic Review, and Journal of International Money and Finance. Her research has been recognized by Wiley as the Top Cited Article and has been featured in The Wall Street Journal.


Professor Yao has been recognized with the Outstanding Staff Award and the Outstanding Research Award from the School of Economics and Management at Tsinghua University.
