Educational Background

Professor Chen received his Ph.D. in Systems Engineering from Tsinghua University in 1989, M.E. in Systems Engineering from Tsinghua University in 1986 and B.E. in Electrical Engineering from Tsinghua University in 1983.


Work Experience

Professor Chen joined the School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University in 1989. Currently, he is the Lenovo Chair professor at the Department of Management Science and Engineering in the School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University. He is also director of the Research Center for Contemporary Management, Key Research Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences at Universities of MOE.

Professor Chen also serves/served in several academic organizations, such as a member of the Management Science and Engineering Group of the Discipline Review Group of the State Council, Secretary-General of the Steering Committee of Management Science and Engineering Professional Teaching in Higher Education Institutions of the Ministry of Education, Vice President of the American Society for Production Operations Management, Vice President of China Society of Management Science and Engineering, and Vice President/Co-Chair of many international conferences including 2021 INFORMS. He also servers as editor-in-chief, editorial board, or consultant of many international academic journals.

Professor Chen has published over 200 papers in high level journals, such as Management Science, Manufacturing and Service Operations Management, Production and Operations Management, Journal of Operations Management, IEEE Transactions, Systems Engineering-Theory & Practice, Journal of Management Science in China, etc, and six books. He has been a principal investigator for over 50 grants of National Science Foundation of China, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Science and Technology, governmental organizations and companies. His research achievements have been widely concerned by scholars all around the world. Based on Google Scholar database, his work has been cited over 10,000 times. A number of his research reports have been adopted by the People's Bank of China, IBM and other government departments and enterprises. He has also been invited to present several Keynote/Plenary lectures at International Conferences.
